Booking choice: The private car from Dubai, from $199 per group. Check dates Tour details
The choice depends less on the mosque than on where you are staying and how many of you there are. A private car for six can cost less per head than a coach seat. A private guide inside the mosque costs more than a whole day trip.
Prices below are the from-prices on the listings in October 2026. The official tour details come from the SZGMC cultural tours page.
The quick answer
Already in Abu Dhabi? The free 30 to 45-minute official cultural tour is enough for most people. From Dubai, a shared tour (from $42 or $80 per person) is cheapest for one or two. For three to six, a private car at $199 per group costs less per head and lets you choose the time at the mosque. A private mosque guide, from $271 per person, is for people who want depth.

Should I book a private or group tour of the Grand Mosque?
Group if you are one or two from Dubai; private if you are four or more, have children or older travellers, or want to stay for sunset.
A shared tour is cheap and organised, but the clock belongs to the group: about 1.5 to 2 hours at the mosque, then on to the next stop. A private car costs the same for one person as for six, which changes the maths fast. Inside the mosque, the free official tour is good; a private guide is better if questions are your thing.
What are the ways to see the Grand Mosque with a guide?
Four: the free official cultural tour, a shared group tour, a private car with a driver-guide, and a private mosque guide.
Side by side:
| Option | Price | Guide inside | Transport | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free cultural tour | Free (after the AED 10 entry) | SZGMC guide, 30 to 45 min | No | Visitors already in Abu Dhabi |
| Shared day from Dubai | From $80 pp | Tour guide, about 1.5 h | Coach from Dubai | One or two travellers |
| Private car from Dubai | From $199 per group (up to 6) | Driver-guide, your timing | Private car | Families, groups of 4 to 6 |
| Private mosque guide | From $271 pp, less in bigger groups | Your own guide, 1 to 2 h | Abu Dhabi pickup | Depth, photos, slow pace |
Is the free official cultural tour good enough?
For most visitors, yes. SZGMC specialists explain the architecture and Islamic art in 30 to 45 minutes, in English and Arabic.
The tours start on the east side of the mosque at 11 am, 1 pm and 5 pm Saturday to Thursday, and 11 am and 5 pm on Friday. Arrive 15 minutes early. You need the access pass and the AED 10 entry, nothing else.
The limits: groups can be large, the route is fixed, and there is no transport. From Dubai you still need to get there, which is what paid tours really sell. The guides on shared day tours usually walk you round themselves; joining the free tour on top is possible if the times line up.

What does a shared group tour get you?
Transport from Dubai, a guide, usually the mosque ticket, and for women a borrowed abaya. You trade control of the clock.
The flagship day from $80 includes the mosque and Qasr Al Watan tickets and the Etihad deck; the half-day mosque tour from $58 does only the mosque, morning or afternoon. Shared tours here run in English, and the flagship also offers French, Spanish and Italian small-group options.
The downsides are the ones you'd expect: fixed times, waiting for latecomers, and a tipping kitty on some tours. If your group is over four, look at the private car before you book four coach seats.
The flagship shared day: mosque and palace tickets, the tower deck and an abaya for women, from $80 per person.
Check dates for the mosque, palace and tower day from DubaiIs a private car from Dubai worth $199?
For three or more, yes: it costs less per head than the flagship shared day, and you set the time at the mosque.
The private city tour from Dubai costs from $199 for the car, up to six people, for 8 to 10 hours. Entry to the mosque, Emirates Palace and the Heritage Village is included; the Louvre and Qasr Al Watan are optional at about $20 each. Pickup is from your Dubai hotel or the airport, and the car is wheelchair accessible.
The itinerary is superb. The Grand Mosque, Palace and Qasr are all architectural and cultural marvels while the Louvre is a nice cap to a day filled with culture.

Coming from Sharjah, or want a second option? The private city tour with the Heritage Village costs from $250 per group and picks up in Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. Its own listing warns about overpriced shop stops; you can say no.

Your own car and driver-guide for up to six: stay at the mosque as long as you like, then the city at your pace.

When the mosque itself is the reason for your trip: one to two hours with a guide who answers every question and finds the photos.
The private Grand Mosque tour starts at the mosque's visitor entrance and lasts about 1.5 hours. Pickup in Abu Dhabi is included; from Dubai it costs extra. The price is per person and falls as the group grows. It is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Alhasan was a wealth of knowledge, and went at our speed - at no point did we feel rushed - and the mosque at sunset was beyond spectacular!

For a solo traveller it is expensive. For a couple who would otherwise follow a big group, it changes the visit.
Which option suits families, seniors and wheelchair users?
A private car or the private guide. Both list wheelchair access, and the mosque lends wheelchairs and runs club cars.
- Wheelchairs: the mosque provides wheelchairs for people of determination and older visitors, and club cars between the parking and the tour start point. The private car and the private guide listings are wheelchair accessible; most shared coaches are not.
- Over 60: entry to the mosque is free. A shorter day suits many: the half-day mosque tour, or a private car that skips the shop stops.
- Small children: a private car means no waiting for the group, and a nap on the way back. Under-3s enter free.

How do private and group costs compare per person?
For one or two, the shared tours are cheapest. From three people, the private car beats the flagship day per head.
Total price for the group, from-prices in October 2026:
| Group size | Budget day ($42 pp) | Flagship day ($80 pp) | Private car ($199 per group) | Private car per head |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 people | $84 | $160 | $199 | $100 |
| 3 people | $126 | $240 | $199 | $66 |
| 4 people | $168 | $320 | $199 | $50 |
| 6 people | $252 | $480 | $199 | $33 |
The comparison is not exact: the flagship includes Qasr Al Watan and the Etihad deck, while on the private car Qasr Al Watan is a $20 option. Add lunch and tips to every column.
